  • Great Question! Even locally, youā€™ll find several definitions & Variations!

    According to Wikipedia:

The Texas two-step is the same step known to ballroom dancers as the international fox-trot.

As with other country/western dances, there are many different versions of two step across the United States, and there may be no one truly "correct" way to perform a particular dance. Even individual dance halls may have their own unique variations which they consider correct.

We're grateful for the opportunity to share what weā€™ve gathered from many thousands of hours and many ridiculously fun years on Austinā€™s Honky-Tonk dance floors.

  • According to Google:

The definition of a Honky Tonk is 'the name given to a type of bar that provides country music for entertainment to its patronsā€™. This name has also been applied to a variety of music genres centering around a country theme.

While you can find honky-tonks in most cities that know what the heck theyā€™re doing, ours are world-famous for a reason. šŸ

  • We teach what we call ā€œAustin Honky-Tonk Two-Stepā€ and like any regional dialect, Itā€™s a blend of local influences. ā€˜Round here youā€™ll find a fun mix of Swing, Cajun, Blues, Latin & Two-Step and itā€™s literally the most fun ever.

This ainā€™t no fussy ballroom dancinā€™, weā€™re talkinā€™ honky-tonks, dancehalls, & dive bars. Because many of our favorite local venues are small little honky-tonks with irregularly shaped dancefloors, we dance a more compact version of two-step that moves more like bumper cars than race cars! We most often dance in the space we have, versus traveling, hence the name ā€œHonky-Tonk Two-Stepā€.

  • Thanks for asking! We started this business a few years back, during a time full of unknowns, major life pivots, and new beginnings. This song resonated with us from the first time we heard it and seemed to describe the rebirth many experience when they find the wellspring of joy that is our local live music and dance scene.
